Random Facts about Maui: 1.) Poinsettas grow here...like....real ones.....they really exist.....And they even come in different colors! So on one hand, hawaii is VERY much in the spirit of the season! haha 2.) Orchids grow here, and I mean ALLL kinds! They are AWESOME!!!!!!! I'm gonna have to make a folder of all the crazy weird orchids and other flowers I find and then just upload them all to facebook in their own album when I get home cuz there are SOOOO many! :D 3.) Guys don't believe in shirts here...........this is not a good thing.........enough said.....XP 4.) unless you want some berries, no one really buys fuit at the store because they all have them growing in the backyard! Tangerines, bananas, lemons, mango, guava, passion fruit, papaya, coconut, and just all sorts of other things! So we're given a LOT of fruit as a result, it's WAY nice! 5.) Have I mentioned the dogs here? Just in case I haven't, yeah, there's LOTS of dogs here, and they're HUGE, and they're MEAN, and they're SCARY! EVERYONE has a dog, and they ALWAYS have a pitbull or some other dog just as large and scary, and they seriously attack the doors, screens, fences, gates, posts, whatever, when we come up the driveway (before we even knock) Seriously, WHY would anyone HAVE such a pet? I mean, sometimes they have like 4 or 5 and they are completely ROCKING the gates and fences and tearing up the screens and knawing at the wood of posts and stuff! What the heck! WHY?! WHY?!?! Why would you have such a thing?!?! These things are seriously monsters and it's ridiculous......fact: I'm never owning a pet, sorry future children and husband, but it's just not happening....
ANYHOO, so this week we had our President's interviews/Christmas party and so we got to watch a movie and this year it was (of course) The Other Side of Heaven, now, I like a good missionary movie as the next person, but hoooolllly COW!!! I never realized that that is probably the most TRUNKY missionary movie EVER!!!!!!!! Throughout the whole movie all they do is read off love letters between Elder Groberg and what's her bucket. Oh my goodness no WONDER all these guy think their girl is gonna wait for them! They have them watching this cheesy, (one in a billion) romantic comedy! Oh geez, man I was cringing so bad, I totally still have a loathing for chick flicks and now on my mission it's been enhanced. Seriously, if you want to watch a movie about real missionary life, watch Errand of Angels, that's honestly the closest thing I've seen to missionary life. As much as I love the best two years, they're suppose to be speaking Dutch the whole time, and all they do is "place Book of Mormons" buuuut honestly we don't give out much of those unless we actually think they're gonna read it......I don't know, I just think Errand of Angels is a lot closer :) BUT I have to admit, it was LOT funnier watching that movie with a bunch of Tongans who actually know what they're saying :) And it's cool knowing some of the words myself :)
Soooooo guess what? WE HAVE A BAPTISM THIS SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His name is Berd. He came to church with this other investigator but whereas out investigator never kept his committments, Berd did! He's AWESOME! We've been teaching him for a couple weeks and he's so stoked to get baptized! Fun fact: He's from Koshrae....never heard of it? Neither had I, and apparently it's SO unheard of (it's in Micronesia) that they don't even have a Book of Mormon published in his language (Kohraean) (I think...that's what the senior couple at the mission office said anyway) But yeah, how's that for a tough one, talk about language barrier! BUT, we got a hold of a few pamphlets that they have published and we've been going over things VERY slowly and he's doing awesome! He quit smoking, drinking, all this stuff and he's just doing awesome! YYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
SO, this Sunday we had the most awesome lesson on Forgiveness I've ever heard. Basically these were my favorite things out of it: (Is was in RS so yes it was aimed toward women) "So there's something wrong with us, we remember EVERYTHING! We can never forget! We can say 'do you remember 5 years ago when I gave sally mae that jar of jam and she never said thank you? Do YOU remember? I remember!' And it's ridiculous! We HAVE to forget! If we forget, we forgive, and beome unusual women of God." "We can not move on and progress until we are forgiven and until we forgive. And we can not make it to the Celestial Kingdom if we never progress. Because that's why we're here is to progress!" "When you don't forgive someone you are aiding in their temporal and spiritual death." "How do you know when you have truly been forgiven or when you have truly forgiven someone else? When you LOVE that person with a CHRIST-LIKE love." and finally "He who takes offense when it is not intended is a fool, and he who takes offense when it is intended is a BIGGER fool - President Hinckley" BAM! SO GREAT!!!!!
Anyhoo, I hope everyone's doing awesome and I hope you all try to find a way to forgive someone this week, YES, it WOULD be easier if they acted sorry, but then that wouldn't help you grow, would it? If it was easy. So, swallow your pride, forgive, move on, and love! Tty'all next week! Work hard! Pray always!
love,
Sis. Bradley
