ALOHA!!!!!
Ok, so this week was like the weirdest week I've ever had, it just did NOT go as planned, but we tried! Appointments got cancelled, people weren't home, VC shifts were changed, we were stood up and then to top it off we had a tsunami warning that ruined ALL of our Sunday plans!!!!
BUT we did have some pretty cool experiences so I'll tell y'all about those :)
So our last P-day we attempted to find this place where we could see Turtles from a grassy area (we're not allowed on sand) but we just couldn't find it, the directions we got didn't match up, but instead we went to this beach my companion's been to before and just sat there and did nothing for like an hour and a half! It was awesome :) THEN on Wednesday we had District Meeting and guess what we talked about? (Grandpa you're gonna like this) NOT saying "Um, Yeah, So, Like, Uh and But"...............HOWEVER, just for everyone's information we did a little contest out of it and I WON! So THERE! Anyhoo, what's worst is now I notice it EVERDAY! Every time I teach a lesson that's all I hear is the "likes, ums, uhs" and whatever else me and my companion and everyone else says. It's so bad.
Thursday and Friday were pretty normal and then Saturday had several baptisms going on so we invited our investigator to attend one of them, however he didn't show until AFTER the closing prayer *facepalm. But we showed him the font and talked to him more about baptism and then he himself just walked up the the guy that was baptized and asked him why he did it. And he said, "Because I finally realized my purpose for doing it, and I realized I could do more with it than I could without it." (he wants to serve a mission) and that seemed to really touch our investigator. We then spent an hour talking with him about the rest of the commandments and more about preparing himself for baptism and it was AWESOME because apparently on THURSDAY, he just woke up after praying the night before and all of his cigarette cravings were gone! He's been cigarette free for 2 weeks now after 13yrs of trying and after 1 week and a 1/2 he has NO cravings. BAM!!! MIRACLE!!! And we were REALLY thinking everything was going great and that there were no problems really until that night when we had a tsunami warning..........awesome.
Now, we already live on a hill next to the temple so we didn't move or switch or do anything different. The only thing that happened was the beach pad sisters came up to spend the night at our place. However, for everyone else in the town, they packed up and evacuated to higher ground, but then they stayed AWAKE until the warning went away. SO the whole town was awake until 3am instead of just sleeping and so like NO ONE came to church, including our investigator so now we're not quite sure if he'll be able to be baptized on the 10th because he's only been to Sacrament 1 time *facepalm so we'll see what happens
Then that afternoon we were about to go to the VC to study a bit before our shift when we decided to stop by this former investigator's house. She was home. (that never happens) She let us in (that never happens) and we talked to her for an HOUR and a HALF about the spirit, the gospel, the Book of Mormon, her life with her husband as a member and her son as a member, how she really DOES know the church is true, and so I invited her to pray for a date that she'll be baptized and she said. "I'll do that!" in the most firm and determined voice I've ever heard! She's been investigating the church for over 20 YEARS. But I told her something that my mom told me that this RS sister said one time. We said, we know that we aren't your first missionaries but let us be your last. And we told her to NOT worry if the the date she received seemed too early. AH! We're so excited! We can't wait to see her on Thursday!
THEN, Monday, we had this last minute "Sisters Day" where all the sisters all over the island came and listened to this guest speaker named Barbara Barrington Jones. Apparently she's an in-high-demand speaker and has trained/coached 21 national pageant winners (Miss USA, Miss Universe, etc) is a former Ballerina, has a CRAZY awesome conversion/life story, and has multiple foundations all over the world for teens, burnt out moms, daycare centers, community centers and just all of these programs. OH! And she's written 6 books. Yeah, she's bomb. You can google her after you finish reading my e-mail :) It was so amazing! She was just so inspiring and flippin' hilarious! She JUST turned 70 but she's just so cool! She is SOOO smart and sharp and she taught us everything from Heavenly Father's individual love for us to our posture and manners to the scriptures to figuring out which channel we're on. Because there's only 2, Thy will be done and My will be done. She was so amazing! And her assistant even had an amazing story and was so inspiring! And she totally gave me an idea of what job I want to do in between semesters after the mission! There's this girls camp called Be the Best You and it sounds AWESOME!
Well anyhoo I hope you all are doing awesome and I love you all!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love,
Sister Bradley
